Abstract: Traffic markings were divided into longitudinal markings，latitudinal markings and spot symbol markings according to their geometrical property and directional relationship between road geometrical centerlines and them. Data model oriented to automatic generating designing plan of traffic markings was built，it can describe relationship between road network data and traffic markings，and support automatic generating designing plan of traffic markings based on GIS platform. To demonstrate this research，some parts of road network region from Zhuhai city were selected and data model above was used，automatic generating system of traffic markings was built under ArcGIS platform，and then traffic markings were realized with linear reference technique，property information of traffic markings was also written in GeoDataBase.
