Abstract: Backwater weir is an absolutely new engineering measure which can regulate the tail water level in the power station tailrace. The tailrace water level change in the Minjiang Shuikou power station tailrace after the construction of the tail water backwater weir and the flowing conditions change near the dam tailrace are studied by the hydraulic model tests. Combining with topography and the characteristics of the tailrace,the weir axis of the original scheme is rotated to obtain 3 amending proposals and then the 3 proposals are optimized. The model test results show that various hydraulic elements of the optimization program meet the engineering requirements.
