Abstract: New method of widening mountainous highway with side slope trellis base cantilevered structures is proposed for steep mountainous areas under maintaining smooth traffic after comparative analysis of the current methods used to widen roads． The design idea is that in order to maintain the unblocked traffic，it is to put an end to deeply dig and highly fill in． After the stability of the outside slope is confirmed，the intensive reinforcements of slope disposal are carried out through the anchor and cast-in-place steel reinforced concrete frame structure． In this case，the cantilever structure is set to make up of less wide part of the road; moreover，the original road should keep unblocked in the whole process of the construction． The work principle of the structures is analyzed，meanwhile，the principle is successfully applied in the engineering practice． The case study indicates that the proposed method which is applied for widening mountainous highway with high and steep slope in the case of maintaining traffic unblocked is not only simple，economic and safe in the construction，but also maximally protecting environment as well as keeping the roads unblocked．
