Stress and deformation of a high rock-fill dam with a vertical soil core on the upper strean of Dadu River during
building and filling Was analyzed with plain strain finite element method(FEM).In computing,linear elastic model Was
used to simulate the stress-strain relationship of concrete,and a nonlinear elaStic model,suggested by Duncan and Zhang,
Was used to simulate the behavior of dam materimals.An imerface medel sugested by Goodman Was used to simulate the discontinuity
deform ation between concrete and clay.The courses of building dam and filling were simulated by increaSing elements
step by step.Computing results indicate that the present design of the dam is reasonable because there is no abnormal
stresses and deform ations jn the dam .
