    The Design and Construction of the World Longest Span Cable-stayed Bridge Normandy Bridge in France

    Normandy Bridge in France with a main span length of 856 m,opened to traffic in Jnanuary,1995.has been the longest span cable-stayed bridge in the world.The author attended the IASBE/FIPInternational Conference on Cable-Stayed and Suspension Bridges、holded in Deauville,France, fromOctober 12 to 15, October.1995. The design, Construction and structure of Normandy bridge arebriefly described,and the new trends of development of long span cable-stayed bridges is also presentedin this paper.

    The conditions and featwres of critical damage are firstly investigated for cement concrete in this paper.Futher,the renormalixation group model and stationary point equation are established. With the aid of normal treatment of damage,the area density of critical damage is obtained,which coincides with exporienccd values. The results have practicaI mean-ing to damage mechan ics an alyses of cement concrete and other brittle materials.

    Based on the definition of momentum coefficient(β)andenergy coefficient(α),this paper derives expressions forβ and a from Engelund’s formula of the velocity distribution for curve. They can be expressed as product of the parame-ter only related to rate of width B to radius Reand βor α for straight channel.The results of β and α are discussed. Thispopor is of practical sign ificance to improve accuracy of hydraulic calculation.
