Analysis and Comparison of Internal Forces Due to Standard Loading Specified in China and U. S. Highway Bridge Codes
    Zhang Shiduo
    1984, 3(3): 1-12.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (771KB) ( )
The aim of this paper is trying to reveal and compare the standard highway loading both specified in Chinese and U. S. Codes. It includes lateral distribution coefficient of live load, impact coefficient as well as reduction coefficient due to more than one lane. Taking the span length from 15m to 45m with 5 main girders in simply supported girder bridge, with bridge with of 7m. The maximum moment and shear at support are computed in each case. By means of Chinese and U. S. Codes of the trucks and the trailers, the computed results, the interrelations can be drawn. Finally, the conclusive suggestions are presented for reference only.

Application of the Principle of Energy to lateral Strain Calculation of Trussed Arch Bridges
Du Guohua, Yu Tonghua, Hong Guozhi
    1984, 3(3): 20-30.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (584KB) ( )
This paper presents a new simple way of calculation of the load lateral distribution and lateral diaphragms of the trussed arch btidge of the principle of energy. The calculation is named the elastically supported continuous beam method, which can also be used for lateral strain calculations of bridge structures of other types.

The Analysis of the Creep Effect on R.C Bridges by Deformation Method
    Zheng Xinguang
    1984, 3(3): 31-39.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (610KB) ( )
This paper presents the basic principle for calculating the creep effect on R. C. bridges by deformation method. On the basis of the creep pattern of the aging theory further considerations associated with the effect on the delayed elasticity of the creep of cement concrete have been discussed furthermore. Various equations are derived and the degree of accuracy of computation by different methods through some examples are compared. It is concluded that the effect on the delayed elasticity must be considered.

Studies on Non-Linear Distribution of Earth Pressure on Retaining Wall
    Yao Dailu
    1984, 3(3): 40-47.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (454KB) ( )
According to the equilibrium conditions of forces acting on a soil element, the problem for non-linear distribution of earth pressure of cohesive backfill is studied. Both magnitude and point of application of earth pressure show good agreement between the in situ measured results and those being computed by the formulae suggested in this paper.

The Preliminary Analysis of the Reliability for Reinforced Concrete Structures in Harbour Work
    Huang Jiawei
    1984, 3(3): 48-53.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (429KB) ( )
This paper calculates the structural reliability of typical members of reinforced concrete in harbour work. The probability analysis approximate method and the Chinese Norm JTJ 220-82 are adopted. The resulting structural reliability indices are close to the target reliability indices, provided by the draft of the Chinese "Unified Standard for Building Structures Design" (Draft), parameters used in the calculation is slightly conservative than usual. The reasons of this treatment are stated briefly in this paper.

The Inner Force Calculation of the Horizontal Drag Rope Used in Building the Temporary Piers of the Top-Push Continuous Girder Bridge
    Lu Jianming
    1984, 3(3): 62-69.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (437KB) ( )
In proceeding the design of the large-spanned continuous girder bridge, we met the inner force calculation problem in building the temporary piers. In the practical work we have to obtain the solution of the binary third-degree equation again and again for many times. This is a comparatively complicated calculation problem. This paper attempts to have some explorations of this problem. We make use of the program type computer to solve this problem with good results. This paper pays special emphasis on the solution of the binary third-degree equation. This solution is unique. It opens a new way to solve the similar non-linear and non-heterogenous equations.

The Numerical Method in Treating Gradually-Varied-Flow Profiles for Natural Channels
    Chen Shouyu
    1984, 3(3): 87-94.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (462KB) ( )
This article recommends a new computation way in treating gradually-varied-flow profiles for natural channels. It has many obvious advantages in application to natural channels. Finally, this paper presents a pocket computator (JI-59, 58, 58c) program and an illustrative example.
