    Computing Method for the Design of Cascade Stilling Basins for High Dam Spillways

    Conventional methods of energy dissipation by single-fall hydraulic jump-type stilling basin, roller bucket, or ski-jumpbucket may not be suitable for high dam spillways be-cause of very high velocity at the end of the spillways, niadc-quatc tailwater depthw, or Side Coditions. A suitable spillway alternative can be a cascade of falls with a still-ingbasin below each fall. This paper presents a computing method for the design of cascade stilling basins for high dam spillways. The design is demenstrated by a numcrical example.

    In the local modelling exporiment, by experimenting with the property of simple port culvert in ship lock, the relationship μp=f(k) has been establiohed. The formula for the drag coefficient of the single port culvert has been set up. in the whole modelling of ship lock, the property of the flow and the law of distribution of the water change of the port culvert have been illustrated. The proper layout lenth of the cutlet sectcr and the ra (∑ωb)/ωr areas have also been determined, the research resuhts can have reference value.

    Matrix theory has come into wide use in many branches of the modern statistics, moreover their developements have been caused by many concerning problems proposed in the statistics. In this paper, three further problems related to statistics, such as {2}-generalized inverse, the singular approximating and the ordering relation of matrices are in troduced in the matrix theory. Bseides, some application of the above results are also discussed in the statistics, especially in the multivariate analysis and the parameter estimate of the linear model.

    This paper begins with solving the formative condition and aesthetic criteria for long-span suspensions and cablestayed bridges, the facade composition and the formative characteristics of the tower and beam for the long-span hanging type bridges are discussed on the basis of analysing and synthesizing the new developement of aesthetic research for these types of bridges at home and abroad, and through the analysis of actual examples, the formative theory and design technique of bridges are exlored.

    Study on the load of pile in excavated Hole and Engineering Cases

    This paper discusses the formula for calculating the load on pile in excavated holes. It is shown that the selected parametres with correct values are very important for an applicable formula. The first case of study is an engineering in consultation, which is a sixeen-storey office building in construction. By calculation, the potential load of the pile in excavated hole is gained. The method can save steel materials 70.98 ton and concrete 403.37 m for the foundation engineering. The second case study is an industrial building. The original programmes of that building are natural building and filling piles, but the corrected desing is taking piles in excavated holes, adopting the measures for adding the toads on the piles, such as inse rtin the piles into foundation rock, and fixing the piles by anchors. The result shortens the duration of construction engineecing and saves construction cost about RMB 489.000 yuan for the foundation engineering.

    In this paper, the proportioning desinn method of bituminous mixtue is presented based on wheel tracking test, the controlling indexes of which arc dynamic stability and ratio of void to misture. The test road in field and model test in the structure laboratory proved that the method is reliabic and effective.

    The Crack-line Stress Field Method for Analysing Strees Intensity Factors of an Eccentrically Cracked Tension Strip

    The crack-line stress field method, which was proposed by Pro. Yi Zhijian[1], is appied to derive stress intensity factors (STFs) of an eccentrically cracked tension strip. It is pointed out that the result of Ref.[1] is partially erroneous. The correct result is given in the present paper, a comparison with the result from classic literatures [2, 3] is also given. It is shown that Yi's method can be used effectively for the SIF solution of an eccentrically cracked tension strip.

    In this study, a flexural function is presented. Which Satisfies all the boundary conditions of the restangular plates with free edges on elastic foundation, the bending. Stability and vibration of free rectangular plate on the two-parameters elastic foundation are analyzed by the variational principle. This method is fast and simple to be used and with very high accuracy which is worthy of being extended in engineeriy In this paper, the previous results of free rectangular plate on the winker elastic foundation have also been improved.

    Based on the results of the experiments under in-plane point load, the paper analyzes the failure modes and the haiour for Arc spot welded stressed skin diaphragm in which there are intermediate pulins and there is no intermediate pulin, we put forward a lot of technical measures to ensure the quality of spot weld, and provide the value of the shear strength and stiffness for this sort of diaphramg.
