    Abstract ( )   PDF (250KB) ( )
A finite segment model has been established and applied to analyse the negative shear lag in box girder with varying depth. This paper discusses the influence of the main factors, including the girder-height ratio, the width to length ratio and any loading arrangement, on the negative shear lag in variable-depth simple-, cantilever-, and continuous box girders. The features of the negative shear lag phenomena are described and some important conclusions are drawn about calculating the negative shear lag for box girders with varying depth.

The Study of Shearing Strength in Inclined Section of GFRP/RC Beams
    Fang Mingshan, Wang Shijie
    1997, 16(3): 35-40,48.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (204KB) ( )
Although studies of reinforcing RC beams with GFRP plates have been done over the passing years, most of them were limited to the reinforcing flexural strength of beams. In this paper, a comparative testing is performed. There are five pieces of simple-supported beams with 4 meter spans, one is RC beam without GFRP reinforcing and the others are reinforced both in the tension zone and inclined section with GFRP plates. At first, the structural behaviours of tested beams are described, such as stiffness, strength and ductility.Next, an analytical model for shearing strength in the inclined section of GFRP/RC beams is established, and a formula of shearing strength is derived according to the static balance method.A remarkable agreement between theory and experiment is found.Furthermore, as to the problem of crack controlling, a simplified and effective formula for calculating crackwidth is developed and verfied with the test. Finally, it is pointed out that the bridge repairing method can be applied widely in the future.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (291KB) ( )
Adding steel fiber to traditional concrete improves its tension strength and crack resistance to a great extent.By the meso-mechanical analysis presented in the paper, it reveals that the fiber's physical properties, geometrical conditions and the interficial bonding state have a marked effect on the macroscopic tension behavior of the composite.Theoretical formula of the tension proportional limit derived here gives a good agreement to the testing results.

An Approach to Commonsense Knowledge Representation in Mechanical Designing Expert Systems
    Miao Yi
    1997, 16(3): 79-83,88.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (185KB) ( )
An important problem in know ledge engineering, particularly in mechanical designing expert systems, is commonsense knowledge representation. In general, commonsense knowledge may be regarded as a collection of propositions. For the reason that the implicit quantifiers in propositions are usually fuzzy, the restrained variables are induced in this paper to represent the meaning of proposition by testing the score of an elastic restraint on the proposition. As the restrained variables are dependent only upon the original desig ning parameters, the decisions made in designing process can be denimished.Based on the idea that the random demarcation points between a proposition and its negation have a Gaussian distribution, an approach to test-score is presented in this paper.

This paper recommends a method about how to calculate the permissible velocity correction factors. This method brings on the formula of calculating the correction factors. It can directily calculate the value of permissible velocity correction factors according to the hydraulic radius of the trench and the scabrous factors, instead of the traditional method of estimating the value in a certain range. The example shows the method is easy to do.
