Although studies of reinforcing RC beams with GFRP plates have been done over the passing years, most of them were limited to the reinforcing flexural strength of beams. In this paper, a comparative testing is performed. There are five pieces of simple-supported beams with 4 meter spans, one is RC beam without GFRP reinforcing and the others are reinforced both in the tension zone and inclined section with GFRP plates. At first, the structural behaviours of tested beams are described, such as stiffness, strength and ductility.Next, an analytical model for shearing strength in the inclined section of GFRP/RC beams is established, and a formula of shearing strength is derived according to the static balance method.A remarkable agreement between theory and experiment is found.Furthermore, as to the problem of crack controlling, a simplified and effective formula for calculating crackwidth is developed and verfied with the test. Finally, it is pointed out that the bridge repairing method can be applied widely in the future.
