New Trends in Cable Stayed Bridge in the World The World's Largest Span Cable Stayed Bridge——Annacis Island Bridge Near Vancouver, Canada
    Fan Lichu
    1985, 4(2): 1-11.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (737KB) ( )
This paper deals with the acture state and new trends in cable-stayed bridge in the world. In recent years, the cable-stayed bridges with composite stiffening girder were increasingly in long span ranges of 250 m to 465 m. The design and some aspects of the structure of Annacis Island bridge which is the world's largest span cable-stayed bridge are prensented here. It has 5 span (50 m+182.75 m+465 m+182.75 m+50 m) composite stiffening girder suspended at the "H" shape R. C. towers by paralled wire cables with a narrow spacing of only 9 m. The tower height is 154.3 m above top of pilecap.

The Seepage Calculation of Earth Dams
    Zhao Yingqi
    1985, 4(2): 31-37.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (430KB) ( )
This Paper Presents a new method of the seepage calculation of earth dams, and obtains the formula as follow:f(a0)=(H12-(a0+H2)2)/(2[(m1H1/(2m1+1))+m1(Hn-H1)+b+m2(Hn-a0-H2)])-a0/m2(1+In((a0+H2)/a0))=0 and it also gives the computation program of the seepage calculation of earth dams for the pocket computer PC-1500. Three examples included at the end of this paper.

Circulation and Cross-section Formulation in Bend Reach
    Gong Bingsheng
    1985, 4(2): 48-54.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (459KB) ( )
Based on considering the effect of bottom shear stress on the spiral flow in bend reach, this paper develops the expressions of velocity distribution transverse slope and shear stress. The relationship between circulation and cross-section formulation is also presented, and the comparisons made here show that the theoretical results agree with river and experiment data quite well.

Duration Curve and its Random Analysis
    Xiao Zhaoyuan
    1985, 4(2): 55-62.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (572KB) ( )
This paper presents the statistic analysis of duration curves, which have been frequently used in channel engineering, water power engineering, and water supply and sewerage work. It is supposed that the duration curve is a stationary stochastic process, and, therefore, the self-regression model is chosen for the curve. The paper shows that with this model the computational results fit the survey data very well, and the duration curve is determinnate. As the mathematical model is very simple, the high accuracy duration water levels of different design standard can be produced through simple calculations.

    Psychology and Traffic Safety
    Wang Jian
    1985, 4(2): 63-71.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (691KB) ( )
This paper deals with the driver factor in the traffic accidents. From the wiew of the psychology, we consider the driver as an information processor and discuss the driver's primary information processing functions and the process. In describing the specific human factor in accident a distinction was made between human direct causes and indirect causes whose presence caused the direct causes. The traffic safety can be improved by applying the principles of the psychology in driver education, licensing, enforcement of traffic laws and remedial caurses.

The Seven Classes and Seven Models of Landslide's Classification and the Law of Landslide's Distribution in Chinese Railways
    Fu Chuanyuan
    1985, 4(2): 83-91.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (793KB) ( )
There are more than one thousand large-middle scale landslides along the railway line in China. The components and properties of slip materials and the genesis of slip zone are main factors of controlling distribution and basic properties of landslides. According to the components of slip bodies, landslides may be classified seven classes including clay slid, loess slid and so on. In addition and the genesis of slip zones, they may be distinguished seven models including structure model, contact model and so on.Comprehensive nomenclature included in both classes and models may fully indicate Various main characteristics of every landslide and would be advantageous to engineering treatment.
