Numerical Processing of Wave Flow Patterns on Surface Particles
    Ren Zuogao
    1989, 8(2): 1-7.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1715KB) ( )
The present paper provides an approximate method for the determination of velocity potential of nonlinear wave field by means of deformation about wave flow pattern on water surface particles. The method is based on Rienecker and Fenton's numerical wave theory.A program has been made according to the method. A photograph of typical wave flow visualization has been quantatively analysed. The calculated wave surface profile and velocities are compared with experimental ones and show a good agreement.

Analysis of Continuous Curved Bridges and Skew Bridges by the Finite Strip Method
    Yu Tonghua, Zhang Pengtao
    1989, 8(2): 31-40.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (587KB) ( )
This paper deals with the analysis of the continuous curved bridges and Continuous skew bridges both with inner diaphrams, using the computer program for analysing the simply-supported curved bridges by the finite strip method to develop a generalized computer program for analysing those two types of bridges so as to make the finite strip analysis of the curved bridge and skew bridge applicable in engineering practice. Emphasis is put on the principles and procedures of compiling the computer program.

Analysis for Prestressing of Curved Continuous Box Girder Bridges
    Xu Xiaofeng, Huang Jianyuan
    1989, 8(2): 41-53.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (743KB) ( )
Based on the theory of thin-walled girder, two design methods for the prestressing of curved continuous box girder bridge are developed. In the first method, the bending moments of the section have been cancelled, while in the second one, the bending moments as well as the torsional moments and the shearing forces have all been eliminated. As a practical application, both methods have been compared and analysed.

A Practical Analysis Method for Lateral Stability of Open Tied Arch Bridge
    Du Guohua, Mao Changshi
    1989, 8(2): 54-67,88.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (786KB) ( )
In this paper, an approximate analytical solution for lateral stability of open tied arch bridge is developed. The method is based on approximate displacement functions and initial stress method. The results of the analytical method are shown to agree quite well with those of the finite element method, and the method will be quite convenient to use.

Study on the Size Distribution of Nonuniform Bed Load
    Zhang Xujin, Zhao Shigiang
    1989, 8(2): 68-78.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (743KB) ( )
Based on the analysis of a large amount of experiment data in this paper, the relationship among the size distribution of nonuniform bed load, bed material and water factors is studied. According to the turbulent velocity following the normal distribution and exchange between bed load and bed material in an equal state in steady sediment transportation, the expression of the size distribution of bed load as well as the calculating methods is obtained by mechanics and mathematics analysis and experiment research. The size distribution curves of bed load calculated by the present method are in good agreement with experiment data.

Experimental Research on Behavior of Laterally Loaded Pile Group in Cohesive Soil
    He Guangchun
    1989, 8(2): 79-88.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (604KB) ( )
This paper presents the research on the behavior of laterally loaded pile group in cohesive soil through model tests and the results are analysed by means of non-dimensional contrast of p-y curves. It shows that the front pile in a row pile may be treated as single pile and the group effect to the rear pile is considered with the reduction coefficient, η. The main factors affecting η,such as pile spacing, depth and loads are thoroughly analyzed in this paper and a formula is proposed. By comparison with data obtained from a site-test, the calculations satisfy the measure-ments. A reference to design on pile foundation concerned is recommended.

The Wear and Tear and Service Life of Road Machinery
    Guo Xiaohong
    1989, 8(2): 89-95.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (476KB) ( )
The wear and tear of road machinery and four kinds of service life are discussed here. It is pointed out that the service life of road machinery should be based on its economic life in order to reduce its annual running maintenance cost of the machinery and to increase the economic benefit of the construction enterprise. Then several methods to calculate the economic life are introduced.
