    Abstract ( )   PDF (259KB) ( )
With the basic concept of damage mechanics and based on the fatigue damage equation of concrete materials, the multistage fatigue damage process of concrete materials is deeply and theoretically analyzed.Accordingly the pathway of multistage fatigue damage with the characteristics of independence and continuance is provided, and the non-linearity multistage fatigue damage equation of concrete materials is inferred. The equation clearly reflects that the loading sequence has an effect on the fatigue accumulating life expectancy;with the use of this equation the effect of overloading on the material life expectancy is analyzed.

The Effect of Axle Load Limit on the Pavement Maintenance Cost
    Ni Fujian, Deng Xuejun
    1999, 18(2): 27-31.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (196KB) ( )
Based on the statistic data and prediction data of the vehicles in China, the axle load distribution models of four axle load limits were developed.According to pavement types and axle load distributions of different axle load limits, the pavement life was calculated. In the case of the main highway's (national and provincial highway) mileage, grades, past years, pavement types and maintenance approaches in China, the annual maintenance cost of different axle load limits was estimated. The results showed that axle load limit affected the pavement maintenance cost greatly, especially, when axle load limit reached 13 ton, the annual pavement maintenance cost would increase greatly. And, the axle load limit becomes bigger, and the enforcement level will become more sensitive to pavement maintenance cost.
