The Design and Construction of the World's Longest Span Bridge——Humber Bridge of England
    Lu Qiu
    1983, 2(1): 1-10.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (635KB) ( )
Humber Bridge of England with its span length of 1,410m has been the world's longest span bridge. This paper concisely describes the design, construction and structure of this piece of gigantic architecture. Through a brief retrospect of the history of the steel suspension bridges, the author lays Special stress upon the principles and drawings of the problems of the cross-section forms, the wind load computation, the application of the wind channel, the nonlinear analysis and the load distribution, which appear in the design calculation with the purpose of explaining the experiences of the famous designer of large-scale steel suspension bridges-Freeman Fox Company which has emphasized the program design and the economic utility. The author also gives emphasis to the fact that among the large-scale bridges with the span length of over 1,000m. the steel suspension bridges are still uncomparable.

Double-Parameter Method Used in Calculating the Laterally Loaded Piie in the Elastic Foundation
    Wu Heng-li
    1983, 2(1): 11-24.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (825KB) ( )
This paper prensents a double-parameter method in calculating the laterally loaded pile. Compared with any current singular parameter method, calculation by this method gives much closer results with regard to the testing data of the slope and the deflection at the top of the test pile.

A Hew Type of Expansion Joint Used in Highway Bridge Deck
    Hu Zhe-zhang
    1983, 2(1): 25-34.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (653KB) ( )
This gives a general view about the common types of bridge expansion joints including the analysis of their ruptures caused by heavy traffic. It also presents a new type of prestressed elastic neoprene tube expansion joint used in highway decks. An applicable calculating method for the calculation of expansion allowance and the important points concerning the structure design of the expansion joints are recommended.

Discussions on the Computing Method of Crack Widths of Partially Prestressed Concrete Beams——An Evaluation of the Computing Method Put Forward by Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands
    Jiang Bing-zhang
    1983, 2(1): 35-42.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (473KB) ( )
On the basis of the controlled crack widths (δfmax≤0.1mm in most cases) of partially prestressed concrete beams, this article mainly tackles the computing method of crack widths with respect to the work on concrete intensile regions when δfmax≤0.1mm. The computing method put forward by Delft University of Technology,The Netherlands, is evaluated. With the help of the status in the test report of Delft University of Technology and by sample computation as well as a comparison between the two methods, this computing method is finally verified to be reasonable, simple, convenient and adoptable.

Deduction of the Differential Equation of the Box-Like Thin Wall Contortion (Distortion) of the Cross-Section and the Approximate Calculation of the Normal Stress
    Zhang Shi-duo
    1983, 2(1): 43-52.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (481KB) ( )
In deducing the differential equation of the box girder contortion (distortion),[1] we take the shear angle r(z) as the unknown and adopt the plate girder frame method to make the deduction. But the involved process of deriving the formula is comparatively lengthy and tedious. To begin with, we derive them by taking the contortion (distortion) deflection as the unknown, Then we base on the closed thin wall stanchion theory and the energy method, we converse them into the differential equation of r(z). The physical concept is clear and the deduction process is concise. Finally we get the solution of w. By making use of Steinle formula, we deduce the analytical expression of the contorted double moment.

A Tentative Attempt to Putting Some Ctiteria for Evaluating the Traffic Conditions of Urban Roads
    Zhang Zong-rang
    1983, 2(1): 53-59.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (551KB) ( )
How are the traffic conditions of the urban roads evaluated? In the past most people evaluate them with their own experiences as the background. But people rarely make the quantitative analysis. This paper based on the practical aspect of the significant features of the urban road traffic of Chongqing with a view of putting forward a tentative inquiry into the quantitative analysis. The author also proposes four points to be the creteria of the evaluation. Finally, the author adopts these points to evaluate the traffic conditions of several main roads of Chongqing.

    Zheng Xin-guang, Pan Bing-fu
    1983, 2(1): 76-88.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (816KB) ( )
Simplified computation of truss arch bridge is mainly simplified computation of influence line of level force. Approximate computational formula for influence line of level force has been derived in this article. According to this formula the table for computation has been given. It provides consultation for the workers engaging in engineering design. This article also introduces briefly the simplified computational method for other members of truss arch.

    1983, 2(1): 97-105.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (503KB) ( )
Basing on the co-variance functional method, the wave spectra of Huanghai (Yellow Sea)area are estimated in this paper. The digital filter techniques and probabilistic properties about x, D, σ, Cv, Cs, Ce are analyzed and discussed. The computation of wave spectra is made on the computer by using co-variance functional method and fast Fourier transformation (FFT)method, the efficiency of the computation by FFT method is increased.

The Status Quo and the Involved Problems of Anti-corrosion for Cables of Cable-Stayed Bridges
    Yi Sheng-tao
    1983, 2(1): 112-120.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (670KB) ( )
In this paper a survey is made of the status quo of the anticorrosion for the cables of the cable-stayed bridges, The author makes a resume of the informations about various antirust methods, their merits and demerits as well as the successes and failures, along with the trends in further development. The author recommends the anticorrosion method which is mainly used in our country, i. e. by filling cement grout into poly-ethlene (PE) pipes. Further studies are attempted in exploring into a simple and adaptable antirust method which is suitable to our local conditions.
