Through a brief retrospect of the history of the steel suspension bridges, the author lays Special stress upon the principles and drawings of the problems of the cross-section forms, the wind load computation, the application of the wind channel, the nonlinear analysis and the load distribution, which appear in the design calculation with the purpose of explaining the experiences of the famous designer of large-scale steel suspension bridges-Freeman Fox Company which has emphasized the program design and the economic utility. The author also gives emphasis to the fact that among the large-scale bridges with the span length of over 1,000m. the steel suspension bridges are still uncomparable.
